Nissequogue River Kayaking (July 2010) - Long Island, NY

River paddling in Long Island - a nice trip is the Nissequogue River about 1/2 way out on the island's North Shore. Great info on put-in posted by the nearby outfitter that runs trips for all levels: Nissequoque River Outfitters. They're even happy to shuttle you for free if you like. We got there early and decided to do our own bicycle shuttle, leaving our boats at the river mouth in Nissequogue River State Park, dropping our car at the upstream take out. Depending on tides, you can do this trip in either direction, but river loses too much water to make it all the way upstream unless timed right. Urban surroundings for some stretches but overall a nice relaxing paddle perhaps 1-2 hours.
